Highest Attendance in a Cricket Match: India vs Australia Ahmedabad Test sets new attendance record at Narendra Modi Stadium for cricket matches

Highest Attendance in a Cricket Match: India vs Australia’s fourth Test match at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has created history by breaking the previous record of 91,092 people on day one of the Boxing Day Test 2013 at Melbourne Cricket Ground. A whopping 100,000 people turned up to watch the game on the first day, making it the highest-ever attendance in a cricket match. The refurbished Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has a capacity of 132,000 seats and is the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The attendance on day one of the Ahmedabad Test match between India and Australia was expected to be high due to the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese. Initially, tickets were locked out for day one due to the presence of the two dignitaries. However, Gujarat Cricket Association released tickets on day one, and fans responded by turning it out in huge numbers in the stadium.

Before the match, Modi and Albanese rode the ‘bat-mobile’ and waved at the 100,000 fans present at the stadium. The high attendance record is not the first time over 100,000 people have turned up at Narendra Modi Stadium. During the IPL 2022 final between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, over 100,000 spectators watched the match, making it the highest-ever attendance in a cricket match in T20.

India is currently leading the four-match Test series 2-1, and a win in the Ahmedabad Test will seal a place in the World Test Championship Final. Australia has already secured their place owing to their thumping win in the Indore Test.

The significance of cricket in India can be gauged from the public show of the leaders of India and Australia at the venue. Images of Modi and Albanese adorned the sightscreen with the tagline ’75 years of friendship through cricket’ in a clever marketing ploy. The public show of leaders underlines cricket’s heft in a country where the sport is something close to a religion.

The fourth Test between India and Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium is a crucial game for both teams, and cricket fans worldwide will be eagerly waiting for the results!
