GoldenEye 007, a legendary James Bond game from Rare, appears to be on its way to Xbox. As observed by Wario64 and reported on TrueAchievements, the game’s achievements have appeared online.

GoldenEye 007 achievement screenshots and a thumbnail have also surfaced online, fueling suspicion that the 1997 Nintendo 64 game would be released on Xbox in the future. According to the leak, there are a total of 55 Achievements worth 1,000 Gamerscore. Both campaign and multiplayer appear to be in the works, based on the text of the Achievements.

The James Bond franchise will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2022. Fans should “keep an eye out for announcements, events, and new material throughout 2022,” according to the franchise’s creators. It appears that a re-release of GoldenEye 007 could be one of the surprise announcements, while nothing has been confirmed at this time.

An Xbox Live Arcade version of GoldenEye 007 was rumoured to be in the works years ago. The unavailability of GoldenEye 007 on Xbox is a “rights issue,” according to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, implying that it is a commercial issue rather than a problem with the game functioning on current hardware.

The lack of GoldenEye 007 in the 30-game Rare Replay package could also be due to a “rights issue.” GoldenEye for Xbox Live Arcade was in development at Rare in 2007 and 2008, according to Unseen64. Microsoft, Activision (at the time, the James Bond rights holders), and Nintendo appeared to have reached an agreement on a publishing contract. Nintendo Japan, on the other hand, is said to have cancelled the project mere months before its planned release for unknown reasons.

In the video above, you can see some leaked footage of GoldenEye 007 for Xbox. In other news, IO Interactive, the creators of Hitman, is working on a new James Bond game that will tell an original storey about the British spy. Given that the James Bond series celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2022, let’s hope we get to see or hear more about the game this year.
