Hello, Francesca Is Getting A Spin-Off 20 Years Later And The New Cast Includes A Vampire Love Triangle

Twenty years after it first aired, MBC’s beloved sitcom Hello, Francesca is coming back — not as a reboot, but as a full spin-off with a fresh premise, a new cast, and just enough nostalgia to bring longtime fans along for the ride.

Hello, Francesca- Meet The New Cast

MBC has officially confirmed the project, titled Next Seat, Francesca (working title), calling it a mid-form rom-com set in a school. Director Park Sang Woo, known for When the Phone Rings, is at the helm.

What’s Actually New Here

Unlike a straight reboot, this spin-off swaps the original’s setup for a supernatural school romance — centered on a vampire trying to pass as human and the classmate whose life gets turned upside down once she can’t quite pull it off. Han Su A’s casting as Pi Na Young is already confirmed by her agency, Blossom Entertainment, while Kim Hyun Jin and Lee Seung Gyu’s roles are still being reported rather than officially locked in.

Kim Hyun Jin, previously seen in Cheer Up and Crushology 101, plays the studious love interest caught in the middle. Lee Seung Gyu, who made an impression as a villain in Teach You A Lesson, takes on the more complicated vampire role opposite Han Su A.

The Nostalgia Factor

Here’s the part longtime fans will care about most: original Hello, Francesca cast members Shim Hye Jin, Park Seul Gi, and Park Hee Jin are reported to return after two decades, bridging the new storyline with the show that started it all back in 2005.

For more on how Korean sitcoms have historically defined the genre, sitcom formats have remained a consistent staple of Korean television since the early 2000s, with Hello, Francesca standing as one of its most fondly remembered entries.

When To Expect It

Next Seat, Francesca is set to premiere in November — giving fans a few months to revisit the original before the spin-off lands.
