Heather Knight set to Retire After India Test at Lord’s

Sixteen years, over 320 caps, and one of the most storied captaincies in women’s cricket — Heather Knight is ready to close the book. England’s former skipper has announced she will retire from international cricket at the conclusion of the historic one-off Test against India at Lord’s, following closely on the heels of teammate Tammy Beaumont’s own farewell.

The End of an Era

The 35-year-old made her England debut as an 18-year-old in 2010 and went on to lead the side an astonishing 199 times, guiding them to a memorable ODI World Cup title in 2017. She currently sits third on England’s all-time run charts in both ODIs and T20Is, and holds the record for most international appearances by an England player.

Heather Knight Career By the Numbers

In Her Own Words

Heather Knight described the decision as bittersweet, reflecting on 16 years where her England teammates and coaches had shaped who she became, while thanking the medical staff who kept her body going through more than 300 games. She was candid about how hard it is to walk away from a dressing room that had been a constant throughout her adult life, yet spoke with contentment about what comes next.

A Fitting Farewell Stage

Heather Knight is currently out in the middle at Lord’s for the one-off Test against India Women, having managed just 6 runs in the first innings. With England and India deep into a gripping contest, cricket fans may witness one final standing ovation for a genuine great of the women’s game before the match concludes. Fans can follow the full scorecard on the official ECB website.
