Grassroots Impact

The quiz attracted participation from Tamil-medium government schools across 42 districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. After preliminary and semi-final rounds, eight top-performing teams battled in the grand finale held in Chennai.

“Building financial confidence at a young age lays the foundation for a resilient future,” explains Parthanil Ghosh, Executive Director at HDFC ERGO. “As the lead insurer for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, we remain deeply committed to strengthening insurance awareness at the grassroots and increasing adoption of insurance products.”

The growth trajectory tells the story: from just over 100 schools in the inaugural edition to 1,070+ teams in three years, reflecting rising curiosity and understanding of insurance among students.

Broader Awareness Initiatives

National Reach: Since 2016, HDFC ERGO has organized Insurance Quiz Junior nationally, engaging over 25 lakh students across India. Building on this legacy, the company introduced Insurance Quiz Senior for undergraduate students in 2025, drawing 1,100+ students from 140+ cities.

Regional Focus: HDFC ERGO also concluded the 3rd edition of “Kapitu Varaam” (Insurance Week) in collaboration with 29 non-life insurers. The initiative enhanced public understanding of motor, health, home, shopkeeper, and MSME insurance through pamphlet distribution, newspaper inserts, and awareness drives across high-footfall locations—facilitating approximately 17 lakh interactions.

Why Insurance Education Matters

Financial literacy gaps persist in India, particularly around insurance products. Young students from government schools often lack exposure to financial concepts that urban, English-medium students receive through family discussions and curriculum exposure.

The State Insurance Quiz Junior bridges this gap by making insurance concepts accessible through competitive learning. Students engage with real-world scenarios around health insurance, motor insurance, home protection, and business coverage—knowledge that translates to informed financial decisions in adulthood.

By targeting Tamil-medium government schools specifically, HDFC ERGO addresses an underserved demographic while building long-term insurance adoption in communities that need it most.

Competition Structure

The quiz follows a multi-round structure:

  1. Preliminary Rounds: District-level competitions narrow down participants
  2. Semi-Finals: Regional rounds select top performers
  3. Grand Finale: Eight teams compete for top prizes in Chennai

This structure ensures widespread participation while maintaining competitive standards. Even teams that don’t reach the finale gain exposure to insurance concepts through preliminary rounds.
