BetVictor Brand Ambassador Harry Redknapp gave his predictions for some of the key fixtures being played on the opening weekend of the Premier League. Bournemouth have been tipped for a win over West Ham, whilst also predicting an even game at Stamford Bridge

Harry Redknapp’s Premier League opening day predictions:

FixtureScore Prediction
Chelsea vs LiverpoolDraw – 1-1
Bournemouth vs West HamBournemouth to win – 2-1
Everton vs FulhamDraw – 1-1
Newcastle vs Aston VillaDraw – 2-2
Sheffield United vs Crystal PalaceCrystal Palace to win 2-0

Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

“Two sides who had difficult seasons last year and need big improvements. Pochettino has come in and trimmed the squad but I’m sure he’ll want a few more departures. I don’t care who the manager is, you can’t manage a squad as big as Chelsea’s was last season. I still think this side could do with a proper striker; they don’t grow on trees though.

I like the signing of Mac Allister for Liverpool, he’ll be a success. Going forward, I’m never worried about Liverpool. They’ve got goals everywhere in this side and can create chances as well as any other side. Can they keep them out though? That’s still my concern.

With the amount of new additions in both sides, it will take time for them to get going. This will be an even one. I’m predicting a score draw.”

One to watch – “He’s the new skipper and they’ll be a lot of responsibility on Reece James. He’s a fantastic player though and a good lad, he’ll be key for Chelsea moving forward.”

Newcastle 2-2 Villa

“I can’t wait for this one, this will be a proper match. What a season that was for Newcastle last year but it’s a big ask for Eddie Howe’s side to do it again. I like the Harvey Barnes signing and I like what I see from young Gordon, I thought he was excellent for the England u21s.

Villa are well-fancied this season and I can see why. They were flying at the end of last season, there’s a lot of good players in this side. They’ve recruited well again this summer and they’ll be pushing to get in the top six.

Two big clubs with big ambitions. I don’t think a whole lot will separate these two all season and I can see a really good game at St James’ Park. 2-2.”

One to watch – “Harvey Barnes lost his way towards the end of his Leicester career but I’m a big fan. He’s quick, direct and I think the Geordies will love him. “

Sheffield United 0-2 Crystal Palace

“I think Sheffield United could have a real tough time back in the league. The recruitment hasn’t been good and it looks like they’re happy to pocket the money and only add a few additions to the squad.

It’s great to see Roy still managing in the league, Palace will need all of his experience this season. Losing Zaha is a massive blow, he was such a talisman for this side.

I think they’ll have too much for Sheffield United though, I’m going for 2-0. “

One to watch – “I love watching Eberechi Eze play, what a classy player he is. With Zaha gone, he’s become the key player in this side.”

Bournemouth 2-1 West Ham

“Two clubs I have a real soft spot for, hopefully both can have good seasons. Nothing should surprise me in the modern game, but I was shocked to see Gary O’Neill leave Bournemouth. They’ve brought a new gaffer in and they’ve been spending some money, made a few good signings.

West Ham’s summer has been difficult, David Moyes must be so frustrated. They’re beginning to get some players in now, it looks like Maguire and Ward-Prowse will be on their way. Two good lads, two good pros, they’ll be good signings if they can pull them off.

I think Bournemouth have had a better summer and have a bit more optimism about them right now. I think they’ll edge this 2-1. “

One to watch – “He’s always been a lad with loads of potential and I think Dominic Solanke can really kick on this season.”

Everton 1-1 Fulham

“Two clubs who’ve had difficult summers. Everton is such a tough job at the minute, Sean Dyche really has his work cut out. They don’t have much to spend so Sean will really need to get the most out of this squad.

Fulham’s summer has been disrupted by the Saudi league. Fair play to Marco Silva for turning his offer down, but it looks like Mitrovic still might go. What a massive loss that would be.

It will be a very even game at Goodison. I can’t split them, 1-1.”

One to watch – “If and it’s a big if, Everton can keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit, they should be safe this season. He’ll look to get off the mark here.”

Brentford 1-2 Tottenham

“It’s going to be difficult for Brentford to keep punching above their weight. Toney will obviously be a huge loss but it’s up to other players to now step up for them.

For Spurs, I’m really interested to watch them. I liked what I saw from Postecoglou at Celtic, he could be a really good fit for Spurs. Those Spurs fans love to see fast, attacking football from their side, they’ve not had that in a while.

Full of energy, well-coached, Brentford are always a difficult side to beat at home. I think Spurs start with a win though, just. 2-1.”

One to watch – “I’m such a fan of James Maddison and I think this is the right club and the right manager for him.”
