The Indian Women’s team defeated Pakistan in the Group A fixture of the Commonwealth Games 2022 that is held at Edgbaston in Birmingham on 31st July. Harmanpreet Kaur not only led India to the magnificent win but also broke Dhoni’s record in the match against Pakistan.

The game was in charge of the Indian bowlers and restricted the arch-rivals to just 99 runs. India’s star player Smriti Mandhana helped the team with a big eight-wicket win with 38 balls left. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur with the victory broke the record of MS Dhoni for most T20 wins by an Indian captain.

Kaur scored a half-century in the first match against Australia but India lost the game by 3 wickets. With the dominance of bowlers from the team, she could win her 42nd match in T20I cricket leaving Captain Cool behind.

Under Dhoni’s leadership, India won the first ever T20 World Cup in 2007 and won 41 matches out of 72 as a skipper. Under Virat Kohli, India played 50 T20I matches and won 30 losing 16. Harmanpreet has led the team 71 times in this format winning 42, losing 26 and no result in the remaining three.

Virat Kohli has a better percentage than Kaur but she certainly has more games to lead as a skipper.

India is at the top spot of the Group A table at CWG 2022

India and Pakistan got defeated in their opening matches by Australia and Barbados. It was a do-or-die situation for both teams but victory was written on India’s destiny. India is set to play its next game against Barbados and Pakistan will play its next match against Australia.

India, Australia and Barbados have two points each but India is at the top due to its better run rate. Pakistan on the other hand is at the bottom with zero points. Barbados and Australia will face each other on Sunday and irrespective of the win, India will slip to the second position. However, India is in a good position to reach the semi-finals which guarantees a medal at the Commonwealth Games of 2022.
