‘Habeas Corpus’ Netflix Review: Brazilian Legal Drama Turns Real Wrongful Convictions Into Gripping TV

Netflix’s newest legal thriller Habeas Corpus blends courtroom procedural drama with real cases pulled from Innocence Project Brazil, delivering a slick, socially charged watch anchored by two magnetic lead performances. Here’s whether this Brazilian series is worth adding to your watchlist.

Habeas Corpus: Overview

What Habeas Corpus Is About?

The series follows Inez, a former prosecutor-turned-law professor who assembles her students to investigate a real murder case, aiming to prove the innocence of a man serving a lengthy wrongful conviction sentence through a habeas corpus filing. One of her students, Marina, throws herself into the case with a hidden agenda tied to Inez’s own past, adding a layer of personal tension to the legal stakes.

What Works

Estiano and Gabrielly’s chemistry carries the show, with their raw charisma keeping episodes compelling even when the plot leans into familiar procedural beats. The series doesn’t shy away from tackling classism and police brutality, grounding its courtroom drama in real social issues rather than pure entertainment spectacle.

Where It Falls Short?

The review notes that some secondary characters, particularly the group of law students, feel underdeveloped, and a few plot twists come across as slightly contrived rather than organically earned. Still, the show avoids spiraling into over-the-top territory reminiscent of shows like How to Get Away with Murder.

Should You Watch It?

With a 3.5/5 rating, Habeas Corpus is recommended for fans of grounded legal dramas that prioritize social commentary over flashy twists. For more Netflix reviews and streaming recommendations, check out TechnoSports for the latest buzz.
