GTA IV Port May Launch This Year on Current-Gen Consoles – Rumor

According to recent online speculation, a port of Grand Theft Auto IV for current-gen consoles may arrive this year. As highlighted by @videotechuk_ on X, prominent Rockstar insider Tez2 shared that someone within Rockstar had previously hinted at a GTA IV port.

If true, development may already have been running for a year. The port is expected to open by the end of 2025. The above may explain the Liberty City Preservation Project GTA V mod being taken down and other unidentified causes for their action.

GTA IV may not be the only Rockstar classic making a return to modern hardware, though. Tez2 also noted that, should Rockstar keep following its older release patterns, we could see a remaster of Max Payne 3 before too long. This could tie in nicely with Remedy Entertainment’s remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 that is on the way, and maybe Take-Two can re-release a special bundle or Definitive Edition at the same time.

There have been reports and speculation about GTAV coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X, but no ports, remasters, or re-releases have materialized. So Tez2’s rumors, while intriguing, are a bit suspect. But with Grand Theft Auto VI slipping to May 2026, Rockstar and Take-Two may have their eye on a slightly bigger prize: Keeping the fanbase ticking over with new versions of older golden oldies.

If it does materialize, then fans will want to see the GTA IV port not go the same way as The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which has been panned for its lackluster execution. In the end, a suitably enhanced GTA IV port – and even Max Payne 3 – would be a sweet, something to revisit by fans who’ve been waiting on GTA VI in the meantime, with up-to-date trimmings to do so in.
