Google seems to have plans to update its Material You design language with Android 14 Update

The Google Design team on Twitter posted a thirty-second video about Material You that contained some noticeable colour changes, as noted by 9to5Google. Compared to the more pastel-style colours used in today’s design language, the colours in the video seem much bolder and brighter. Although Android 14’s test doesn’t have the updated colours, 9to5 discovered the styles in Google’s open-source code.

The demonstration offered a straightforward colour picker that let the user select the colour they wanted their phone to be painted. Users may have the opportunity to significantly customise their phone’s design and choose the ideal colour with the additional included options visible in the photos with the help of the updated new Material You.

Similar to how Android 13 or 12-powered phones currently do, Android 14 would still be able to draw colours from your wallpaper thanks to this updated Material You colour language.

Additional testing revealed that the primary colour of your choice will persist even when a phone is in dark mode. To better fit your chosen UI theme, other phone components (like the text) will change.

Finally, 9to5 hypothesises that the “Fidelity” style option may have caused Material You’s colouring to change from pale to bold. Its goal is to make sure that the primary colour a user prefers is actually used in the UI of their phone.

Recently, Google released the Android 14 Beta 1.1 build to participants in the programme, which was jam-packed with bug fixes. Big announcements and Android development progress will be covered at Google I/O 2023, which is just a few weeks away. With a Material You colour change, however, Google may reveal more of what is actually in store for users.
