Google Rebrands Google Camera to Pixel Camera on Play Store and Launches Native Android 14 Share Sheet for Google Photos

Google has decided to rebrand its camera app, which was originally exclusive to Pixel devices, and it is now known as “Pixel Camera” on the Play Store. The company has not only changed the name in the app but also updated the description, emphasizing the fully revamped Pixel Camera’s capabilities. These enhancements enable users to capture exceptional photos and videos, featuring options like Portrait mode, Night Sight, Time Lapse, and Cinematic Blur.

More About the Pixel Camera and Share Sheet for Google Photos

The latest iteration of the Pixel Camera app is version 9.0 for Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 7 Pro, while the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are equipped with version 9.1. Importantly, the most recent Pixel Camera version is compatible exclusively with Pixel devices running Android 14 or higher. Additionally, a separate version is available for Wear OS devices, but it is limited to those connected to Pixel smartphones running Wear OS 3 or a newer version.

Beyond the app’s renaming, Google has introduced a native Android 14 share sheet for Google Photos. This new feature facilitates image sharing by initiating a “Sharing image” sheet when users select the share icon. Within this sheet, a “Modify” button in the top-right corner permits the selection of multiple images for sharing.

Furthermore, users can access the Markup tool by clicking on a pencil icon associated with the chosen image. Below the image, a carousel of Google Photos actions, including Create Link, Send in Photos, and Add to Album, is available.

The subsequent rows offer Direct Share targets, which include frequently used applications. To access more options, users can scroll up to reveal the entire grid. This updated share sheet is accessible in Google Photos version 5.65 on Pixel smartphones operating on Android 14. Users with devices running Android 13 or older versions should expect to continue using the existing share sheet design.
