Google Pixel 9a Design Leaks: New Camera Setup, Larger Display, and More
The leaked images are consistent with the CAD renders shown above and confirm the rear camera setup, in particular. Unlike the older Pixel A-series devices, which featured a camera bar that ran horizontally across the back of the phone, the new Pixel 9a comes with a new horizontal arrangement. The camera housing has been reshaped into an oval island, similar to the rear camera setup of the iPhone 8 Plus.
This shift represents a departure from the design language, as this housing bears two camera sensors: a new 48 MP Sony IMX787 as the primary sensor and a 13 MP ultrawide, both deduced from previous leaks. The main sensor is the same as the one in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and we can assume that the Pixel 9a will perform well among its peers price-wise in terms of cameras.
Unfortunately the front of the Pixel 8, only seems to be slightly different from the previous Pixel 8a. The bezels are still thick compared to most mid-range smartphones, and the front camera still has the same position as before. The model number must be initialed and suggests this is a prototype of the Pixel 9a — one of the other leaked images also lists the IMEI and checks out to GTF7P.
Other leaks suggested that the Pixel 9a will feature a 6.3-inch Actua display, which is just a tad bigger than the display on the Pixel 8a. It should pack a 5,000 mAh battery with 18W charging support, 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of storage. It’ll also get good performance from Google’s Tensor G4 chip. So far, the Pixel 9a looks to be a great addition to the budget phone lineup from Google, providing plenty of improvements over its precursor for a comparable price.
