Google joins Facebook in the development of the new subsea Cable System spanning across Asia-Pacific

According to the latest information the social media giant Facebook, as well as the search engine giant Google, has together announced their participation in a new subsea Cable system for the year 2024. This new system will be set up to improve internet connectivity across the Asia Pacific region.

This latest cable system is dubbed as apricot and the entire infrastructure project will link together the countries of Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Guam and the Philippines along with Indonesia. This will serve as a major connection to improve and serve the growing demand for broadband access as well as 5g wireless connectivity.

In March Facebook had announced two new trans-Pacific  Subsea cables which will be connecting Singapore to the United States West Coast. And These connections are termed by Facebook as Bifrost and Echo. Google recently announced its participation in the construction of the Echo line.

Going into much detail about the Apricot and Eco cables they are complementary submarine systems as stated by Google, and they will be used to improve the resilience of Google Cloud as well as the company’s other Digital Services.

Facebook also announced that the new fibre optic link which will span across Asia-pacific will have an initial design capacity of more than 190 TB per second which is an amazing speed if you ask me.

Why both tech giants like Facebook and Google are investing heavily in building the internet infrastructure in these particular regions is because both this company’s see that these regions offer the highest growth potential. This particular investment strategy was also seen last year when Google announced a whopping 10 billion dollar plan to spend in India’s digitisation push over the next five to seven years.

As to whether how much benefit this Asia Pacific internet connectivity cable system will bring about To the internet needs of the region remains to be seen.  but we are excited about the completion of the project. For more information stay tuned.
