Google join hands with Unity, Game Engine is coming to Chrome OS

You might familiar with Unreal Engine or some other popular game engines. Unity is also one of those leading game engines currently powering so many games on various hardware platforms and OS. Most of the Unity games, created for Androids, can already run on Android through the built-in Android runtime. However, Google join hands with Unity for better performance on Chromebooks.

Unity, in its blog post, wrote, “we’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Google to integrate Chrome OS into the Android developer environment. From Unity 2021.2 onward, you’ll be able to add Chrome OS functionality to your new and existing Android applications. We’ll be adding Chrome OS support to 2021.1 and 2020 LTS later this year. Unity will support Chrome OS devices that run on x86–x64, as well as Arm.”

At present, Unity games can be compiled for the x86_64 Chromebooks. It was not available since the company revoked its support for x86 Android devices in 2019. Another thing is Unity is also adding the ability to override ChromeOS keyboard or mouse default inputs with custom actions. Needless to say, it will help to provide a desktop or laptop like gaming experience.
