Google is adding air raid alerts for Ukrainian Android users

Days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, Google announced that it will be disabling some of its Google Maps features in Ukraine such as traffic information and crowd data.

Google’s argument for doing so was that all this data could be used for military intelligence. Now the company is adding Air Strike alerts for its Ukrainian users.

This new update will be a part of Google’s Play Services and reportedly, Google will be enabling this upon the special request from the Ukrainian Government.

Google’s VP of Engineering has said that Google uses the same low-latency system that is used to detect earthquakes for detecting airstrikes.

We sincerely hope that the situation in Ukraine is resolved at the earliest and it is good to see that the top tech companies have been doing their best to help civilians.
