Transforming Healthcare with AI Infrastructure
Google’s $400,000 Health Foundation Model collaboration leverages MedGemma to build India-specific healthcare solutions. Ajna Lens partners with AIIMS to develop dermatology and OPD triaging models serving diverse skin tones and conditions, contributing to India’s Digital Public Infrastructure.
Working with the National Health Authority (NHA), Google deploys AI to convert millions of unstructured medical records into FHIR standard, reducing documentation burden and enabling data-driven policy decisions. Additionally, 400,000 NHA-registered health facilities will appear on Google Maps, improving healthcare accessibility.
Empowering India’s Research Ecosystem
Over five years, Google supported nearly 1,000 years of PhD-level research across 25+ institutions. The $8 million funding for AI Centers of Excellence spans TANUH (IISc Bangalore) for non-communicable diseases, Airawat (IIT Kanpur) for urban governance, IIT Madras for education, and ANNAM.AI (IIT Ropar) for agriculture.
A $2 million contribution establishes the Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT Bombay, honoring Professor Pushpak Bhattacharyya’s legacy and ensuring AI serves India’s linguistic diversity.
For insights on India’s tech innovation landscape, these investments demonstrate how AI infrastructure can address national challenges at scale.
Real-World AI Impact
Wadhwani AI’s HealthVaani, powered by Gemini 2.5-Flash, supports ASHA and Anganwadi workers with multilingual conversational AI. Research suggests AI tools could enable India’s frontline workers to deliver 98 million additional rural patient visits annually, saving ₹390 billion yearly—12% of out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure.
Khushi Baby conducted 35 million tuberculosis screenings in Rajasthan using Google’s Open Health Stack, showcasing AI’s public health potential.
Sustainable AI Growth
Google partnered with ReNew Energy for a 150 MW solar project in Rajasthan, addressing AI value chain emissions. This builds on prior collaborations adding 186 MW renewable capacity, supporting India’s 500 GW clean energy goal by 2030.
Union Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan attended the event, highlighting government support for AI-driven Digital Public Infrastructure addressing large-scale social needs.
