Google has been steadily enhancing its AI ecosystem, and the latest advancement brings a much-anticipated feature for Samsung Galaxy users. The Google Home extension is now widely available within the Gemini app, offering seamless smart home control without relying on the older Google Assistant framework. This update not only simplifies smart device management but also improves the speed and efficiency of voice commands.

The Evolution of Gemini: From Google Assistant to a Smarter AI

Gemini, Google’s new-generation AI assistant, replaced Google Assistant last year with the promise of smarter, faster, and more intuitive functionality. While the transition introduced many advanced features, one notable drawback was the lack of direct Google Home integration. Users had to rely on indirect methods, making smart home controls sluggish and less convenient.

However, with the latest update, the Google Home extension is now natively available in the Gemini app. This integration allows users to control smart devices directly, bypassing the need for Google Assistant as a middle layer.

Wider Rollout: Galaxy Users Get Priority

Initially, the Google Home extension rolled out to a limited group of users. Google announced the feature last month, but it was restricted to specific regions and devices. Now, the rollout has expanded, and many Samsung Galaxy smartphone and tablet users can access the extension directly from the Gemini app.

Samsung’s close collaboration with Google often gives Galaxy users early access to new Android features. This wider availability aligns with that trend, providing Samsung users with an enhanced smart home experience.

How to Enable the Google Home Extension in Gemini

Activating the Google Home extension is straightforward:

Open the Gemini App: Ensure your Galaxy smartphone or tablet has the latest version of the Gemini app installed.
Navigate to Settings: Open the app, go to the Settings menu, and find the Extensions section.
Toggle On Google Home: Locate the Google Home extension and switch it on.

Once enabled, Gemini gains full control over your Google Home-compatible devices, making smart home management faster and more intuitive.

Enhanced Smart Home Controls and Faster Processing

Before this update, users could still control smart devices via Gemini, but the process involved routing commands through Google Assistant. This additional step often led to delays. Now that the extension is integrated directly into Gemini, voice commands are processed natively, resulting in faster response times.

For example, if you say, “Hey Gemini, turn off the living room lights,” the command no longer passes through Google Assistant. Instead, Gemini communicates directly with Google Home, executing the task almost instantly.

Galaxy S25 Side Button Integration

Another notable improvement is the integration of smart home controls with the side button on the Galaxy S25. Previously, users had to open the Gemini app to give voice commands. Now, you can long-press the side button to activate Gemini and issue smart home commands directly.

This change not only enhances convenience but also reflects Samsung’s commitment to streamlining user experiences through hardware and software integration.

Why This Update Matters

The expanded availability of the Google Home extension in Gemini brings several benefits:

Faster Smart Home Controls: Native integration eliminates delays caused by routing commands through Google Assistant.
Simplified User Experience: One app handles both AI assistance and smart home management.
Improved Accessibility: Side button activation on Galaxy devices ensures quick access to controls.
Broader Device Compatibility: The extension works seamlessly with all Google Home-compatible devices.

What’s Next for Gemini and Smart Home Integration?

Google’s focus on enhancing the Gemini ecosystem suggests more updates are on the horizon. Future improvements may include:

Advanced Automation: AI-driven routines based on user behavior.
Multi-User Support: Personalized responses for different household members.
Cross-Platform Sync: Seamless integration with other smart ecosystems like Samsung SmartThings.

As Google continues to refine Gemini, users can expect an even more cohesive and intelligent smart home experience.

Conclusion: A Smarter Home Experience for Galaxy Users

The widespread rollout of the Google Home extension for Galaxy users marks a significant step forward in smart home convenience. By integrating Google Home directly into the Gemini app, Google has eliminated unnecessary steps, improved response times, and enhanced overall usability.

For Samsung users, especially those with the latest Galaxy devices, this update transforms how they interact with their smart homes. With faster controls, side button integration, and seamless device management, the future of smart living looks brighter than ever.

If you haven’t enabled the Google Home extension yet, update your Gemini app and experience the difference today. Your smart home just got a whole lot smarter.
