Google Announces Googlebook — The AI-First Laptop That Makes Chromebook Look Outdated

Google has just announced its most ambitious hardware category in over a decade. Meet the Googlebook — a new class of laptops built from the ground up for Gemini Intelligence, arriving this fall from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Over 15 years ago, Google introduced the Chromebook, a laptop built for a cloud-first world. Now, as the company moves from an operating system to an intelligence system, it sees an opportunity to rethink laptops entirely.

What Is a Googlebook?

Googlebook brings together the best of Android — with powerful Google Play apps and a modern OS designed for intelligence — and ChromeOS, which includes the world’s most popular browser. The result is a new category of laptops with Gemini’s helpfulness at its core, designed to work seamlessly with the devices in your life.

Think of it as Android for laptops, rebuilt with AI as the primary interface layer — not a feature bolted on top.

Five Features That Define the Googlebook Experience

1. Magic Pointer

Magic Pointer, built with the Google DeepMind team, brings Gemini’s helpfulness right to your cursor. Just wiggle it and watch it come alive, offering quick contextual suggestions every time you point at something on screen. Point at a date in an email to set up a meeting, or select two images — like your living room and a new couch — to instantly visualise them together.

2. Create My Widget

Create your Widget lets you build custom widgets just by prompting. Gemini can search the internet or connect to your Google apps like Gmail and Calendar to create one personalised dashboard. Planning a family reunion in Berlin? Gemini can organise your flight, hotel, restaurant reservations, and a countdown into a single desktop widget.

3. Cast My Apps

Googlebook keeps you in the flow when switching between your laptop and phone. If you are in the zone on your laptop but get hungry, you can tap a phone app, get that food order out quickly and get back to work. If you get a Duolingo reminder, you can pop over and finish it without ever leaving your screen.

4. Quick Access

With Quick Access, you can easily view, search, or insert your phone’s files on your laptop directly from the file browser — no transfers needed.

5. Glowbar

Every Googlebook will feature a unique glowbar — a design element described as both functional and beautiful — that will serve as the visual signature identifying the new category across all hardware partners.

Googlebook vs Chromebook — What Changed

The Chromebook was built for a world where everything lived in a browser tab. The Googlebook is designed for a world where intelligence is the operating layer — proactive, contextual, and connected across every device you own.

The Magic Pointer alone represents a fundamental rethink. The cursor has been effectively unchanged since the right-click was introduced. Attaching Gemini to it transforms passive navigation into active assistance — a shift as significant as touch input was for mobile.

For Indian buyers who have been choosing between a MacBook and a Windows laptop, the Googlebook introduces a third option that is natively AI-first, deeply Android-integrated, and — given the partner lineup of Acer, ASUS, and Lenovo — likely to arrive at competitive price points.

When and Where
