If you’re jumping into Good Omens Season 3 on Prime Video and your memory of Season 2 is a bit fuzzy, don’t panic — we’ve got you covered. Season 2 was emotionally brutal in the best possible way, and what happened there sets up everything in the final chapter.
Here’s a quick, no-fluff recap.
Good Omens Picture: What Was Season 2 About?
Good Omens Season 2 premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 28, 2023, and mainly focused on the deepening emotional bond between Aziraphale and Crowley as they hide an amnesiac Archangel Gabriel from Heaven and Hell. Through historical flashbacks and a modern-day siege on Aziraphale’s bookshop, the duo questioned celestial morality.
Think less apocalypse, more slow-burn heartbreak.
Good Omens Key Events at a Glance
| Event | What Happened |
|---|---|
| Gabriel appears | Naked, amnesiac, humming “Everyday” at the bookshop |
| Flashbacks | 1941 London, 19th-century Edinburgh, ancient Biblical times |
| Heaven investigates | Angel Muriel sent to probe the mysterious miracle in Soho |
| Demon siege | Shax leads demons to demand Gabriel from the bookshop |
| Gabriel’s truth | He gave up his memories willingly — for love (Beelzebub!) |
| The offer | Metatron offers Aziraphale Gabriel’s old job in Heaven |
| The kiss | Crowley confesses his love and kisses Aziraphale |
| The gut-punch | Aziraphale accepts the job and goes back to Heaven anyway |
The Finale — That Kiss, That Ending
This is the part that broke the internet. The Metatron offered Aziraphale the position of Supreme Archangel, and as a bonus, promised to restore Crowley’s angelic status so they could live together in Heaven. Aziraphale was ecstatic, believing he could change things for the better — but Crowley rejected the offer outright, reminding Aziraphale that Heaven is no different from Hell.
Crowley tried to convince Aziraphale to turn down the job so they could be together, and sealed his confession with a kiss. Sadly, it wasn’t enough. The final scene shows Aziraphale in an elevator heading back up to Heaven, while a heartbroken Crowley drives off alone in his Bentley. Looper
The same song — A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square — that played joyfully in Season 1’s finale played again here. This time, Crowley switched it off.
Brutal.

What to Know About the Show’s Roots
Good Omens is based on the beloved 1990 novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and Season 2 was designed as a narrative bridge to bring the story to the point where the authors’ planned (but never written) sequel could begin. Season 3 is that sequel — though it arrived as a condensed 97-minute special after production changes.
