London mobility fintech GoCab just secured $45 million to expand its innovative “drive-to-own” platform across Africa, offering gig workers a path to vehicle ownership instead of endless rental payments.

Ownership Over Rentals: A New Model
The funding round includes $15 million in equity and $30 million in debt, part of a larger $60 million Shariah-compliant debt facility. Launched in 2024, GoCab is already on track to hit $50 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) this year.

How Drive-to-Own Works
GoCab provides gig workers, delivery drivers, and freelancers structured vehicle ownership plans. Instead of traditional rentals draining earnings, workers steadily acquire full ownership while generating consistent income. The platform also finances motorbikes and offers buy-now-pay-later mobile phones—all managed digitally.
Co-founder Azamat Sultan emphasized restoring dignity through ownership for millions of Africans lacking access to both mobility and finance. His partner, Hendrick Ketchemen, described capital as a tool to transform daily realities and provide families long-term stability.

Electric Vehicle Push
GoCab plans to integrate more electric vehicles into its fleet, helping drivers reduce fuel costs while decreasing urban pollution. This aligns with broader sustainability goals as African cities grapple with carbon emissions and volatile fuel prices.
The company’s EV strategy positions it at the intersection of financial inclusion and environmental responsibility—a compelling narrative for impact investors.
Market Opportunity: 400 Million Gig Workers
With over 400 million gig workers globally (many in Africa), GoCab addresses massive underserved demand. Investors like Vladimir Dugin of E3 Capital note the platform solves Africa’s dual challenge: lack of affordable vehicles and high transportation costs.
Fatoumata Bâ of JANNGO Capital highlighted that each vehicle creates full-time income, translating to tens of thousands of dignified jobs. KawiSafi Ventures and Cur8 Capital also participated, recognizing the scalability potential.

2028 Vision: 10,000 Vehicles, $100M ARR
GoCab targets 10,000 vehicles in operation and $100 million ARR by end of 2028. This aggressive growth plan leverages the expanding gig economy, rising smartphone penetration, and increasing demand for flexible income opportunities across African markets.
The drive-to-own model could fundamentally shift how transportation assets are accessed in emerging markets. For updates on African fintech innovation, follow Technosports and check our fintech coverage.
