Ghost Rider Is Coming Back: Ryan Gosling’s MCU Debut, Release Date & Everything We Know

Marvel’s Spirit of Vengeance is finally riding into the MCU again. Fourteen years after Nicolas Cage last played the role, Ryan Gosling has been confirmed as the new Ghost Rider, and Marvel is treating it as one of Phase 7’s biggest supernatural bets.

The Big Reveal at SDCC 2026

Marvel Studios confirmed the news at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, announcing Gosling in the title role with Stranger Things and Free Guy director Shawn Levy behind the camera. It’s their second collaboration with Gosling, following Star Wars: Starfighter, out in May 2027.

Ghost Rider: Key Details

Who Might Gosling Be Playing?

Marvel hasn’t confirmed which comic-book Ghost Rider Gosling will portray. Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes have already been done on screen by Cage and Gabriel Luna, so Danny Ketch — introduced in the comics in 1990 — is considered the most likely fresh pick, though Blaze or Reyes aren’t fully ruled out either.

Interestingly, reports suggest Gosling himself pitched the project to Marvel, with studio chief Kevin Feige reportedly sold on the idea within minutes of hearing it.

Why This Matters for the MCU

With the Multiverse Saga wrapping up via Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, Ghost Rider could kickstart Marvel’s supernatural corner heading into its next era — potentially paving the way for Blade or even a long-rumored Midnight Sons team-up down the line.
