Nefer’s Character Connections Overview

Deep Dive: Nod-Krai Connections

About Lauma: A Warning Wrapped in Sweetness

Nefer’s most revealing voiceline concerns Lauma, the gentle Moonchanter. Despite Lauma’s reputation for kindness and her ability to charm wildlife, Nefer warns the Traveler about getting too close. She suggests Lauma might convert you to her religion before you realize what’s happened—a surprisingly cynical take from someone who usually maintains professional distance.

This tension stems from the Song of the Welkin Moon Archon Quest, where their distrust becomes apparent. For players building teams, this creates fascinating narrative dissonance since Nefer and Lauma form one of the strongest Lunar-bloom partnerships mechanically despite their mutual suspicion lore-wise.

About Flins: Trust Behind Etiquette

Nefer sees through Flins’ impeccable manners, recognizing them as protective armor hiding his true identity. She already knows he’s a Snowland Fae from Snezhnaya rather than a native Nod-Krai Lightkeeper, yet she values their friendship enough to overlook these secrets.

Her emphasis that friendship requires trust—not geographical origin or species—reveals Nefer’s pragmatic philosophy. She doesn’t care what you are, only whether you’re reliable. This makes Flins one of her most trusted contacts despite his mysterious background.

About Jahoda: The Heart of the Curatorium

Nefer’s warmest voiceline belongs to Jahoda, whom she calls the most capable employee at the Curatorium of Secrets. Beyond praising her competence, Nefer appreciates Jahoda’s bravery and kindness while viewing her “immaturity” as a positive trait—suggesting Nefer herself feels burdened by the cynicism that comes with age and experience.

The touching detail about wanting Jahoda to remain her employee for years reveals genuine affection beneath Nefer’s professional exterior. It’s rare to hear the intelligence broker express such open fondness.

Sumeru Connections: Friendships and Business

About Candace: Childhood Bonds

Perhaps Nefer’s most personal revelation involves Candace, the Guardian of Aaru Village. Nefer stayed in Aaru after losing her home, and young Candace was one of few children willing to befriend the newcomer. Together they drove off beasts, fought bandits, and cared for those in hardship—establishing the foundation for Nefer’s later career.

This backstory explains Nefer’s understanding of desert communities and her eventual establishment of the Curatorium. Those childhood adventures with Candace taught her the value of information and protection, shaping her into the intelligence broker she became.

About Dori: The News Pipeline

Lord Sangemah Bay serves as Nefer’s regular business partner and primary news source for Sumeru developments. Through Dori, Nefer learns about the Akademiya’s post-Azar reforms, including the newly bustling Vahumana Darshan and Eleazar cures.

Her “how very heartwarming” comment carries subtle sarcasm—typical of Nefer’s dry wit when discussing institutional changes. She appreciates good news but maintains healthy skepticism about government organizations.

International Intelligence Network

About Diluc: The “Owl” Connection

Diluc serves as Nefer’s key Mondstadt informant under the codename “Owl”—fitting given his nighttime activities as the Darknight Hero. While she won’t reveal how they met (respecting his privacy), she praises his prompt payment for information services.

This partnership reveals Diluc’s extensive intelligence network extends beyond Mondstadt, connecting with international brokers like Nefer for crucial information sharing. The mutual professional respect suggests a long-standing relationship.

About Yelan: The Client Who Won’t Owe Favors

Yelan represents Nefer’s most valued client—someone who understands the intelligence game well enough to avoid being indebted. By paying double or triple asking prices upfront for sensitive intel, Yelan prevents Nefer from leveraging favors later.

Nefer’s slightly jealous tone about Liyue’s wealth adds humor while respecting Yelan’s strategic thinking. Both women operate in shadows, and their mutual wariness creates professional chemistry built on recognition of each other’s capabilities.

Hints of Future Plot Points

About Dehya: The King Deshret Connection

Nefer’s voiceline about Dehya drops an intriguing lore bomb—she suggests Dehya’s gauntlets connect to King Deshret. This hasn’t been explored in-game yet, potentially setting up future Sumeru storylines involving ancient desert technology and Dehya’s family history.

Such cryptic hints are classic HoYoverse foreshadowing, and Nefer’s intelligence network makes her the perfect vehicle for dropping future plot threads.

What Nefer’s Voicelines Reveal About Her Character

Beyond individual relationships, these voicelines paint a complete picture of Nefer herself. She values:

• Competence over status (her praise for Jahoda and Diluc)
• Honesty in business (appreciation for Yelan’s upfront payments)
• Childhood bonds (genuine warmth toward Candace)
• Strategic skepticism (distrust of Lauma despite her popularity)

Her extensive network spanning Mondstadt, Liyue, Sumeru, and Nod-Krai establishes her as one of Teyvat’s best-informed characters—potentially rivaling the Fatui Harbingers in intelligence-gathering capabilities.
