How Durin Compares to Meta Supports

The Bennett-Xiangling Hybrid Theory

Instead of direct damage dealing, Durin provides massive teamwide buffs and off-field Pyro support, positioning him as a Bennett + Xiangling style replacement, but with modern scaling. This suggests HoYoverse is addressing power creep while maintaining familiar gameplay patterns.

Potential Meta Impact

Team Composition Benefits:

Vaporize Teams: Enhanced reaction damage through consistent Pyro application
Mono-Pyro Compositions: Substantial damage buffs for Pyro-focused strategies
Hybrid Support: Flexibility to adapt to various team requirements
Modern Scaling: Updated multipliers addressing current endgame difficulty

Release Window Speculation

Timeline Uncertainty

Credible leaker hxg_diluc has stated that Durin will unfortunately not be playable in Version 5.8. However, more recent leaks suggest Durin could become playable during the 6.x versions, potentially following Mondstadt’s story development in Version 5.6.

Story Integration

Version 5.6 will focus on Mondstadt lore and feature familiar characters, with leaks claiming this story will set up Durin’s introduction as an eventual playable character. Players can already catch a glimpse of Durin’s new human form through Albedo’s successful experiments.

Why Durin Matters for the Meta

Addressing Support Power Creep

The current meta heavily relies on Bennett and Xiangling for Pyro support needs. Durin’s rumored kit addresses several key issues:

Enhanced Versatility: Unlike Bennett’s circle-dependent healing, Durin’s support appears more mobile and flexible.

Modernized Scaling: Updated damage multipliers and buff percentages that match current endgame requirements.

Dual Functionality: Combining sub-DPS potential with comprehensive team support eliminates roster slot pressure.

Strategic Implications for Players

Investment Considerations

For players currently investing in Pyro support characters, Durin’s arrival could significantly shift resource allocation priorities. His hybrid nature might make him more valuable than single-purpose supports.

Team Building Evolution

The Bennett-Xiangling duo has dominated Pyro team compositions for years. Durin’s potential to replace both characters with one slot opens unprecedented team building possibilities.

Community Reactions and Expectations

The Genshin community has expressed mixed feelings about another Pyro support character. However, many speculate he may function as a Vaporize-focused support, and if true, Durin could easily become a staple unit for endgame content.

Lore Significance

Beyond gameplay mechanics, Durin represents a crucial story element connecting Albedo’s narrative with broader Khaenri’ah mysteries. His playable release would provide closure to long-standing plot threads while introducing new gameplay possibilities.

What We Still Don’t Know

Several crucial details remain unclear:

Exact constellation effects and scaling
Weapon compatibility and signature weapon details
Specific animation sets and skill cooldowns
Banner positioning and associated 4-star characters

Preparing for Durin’s Arrival

Resource Planning

Players interested in Durin should begin saving Primogems and farming Pyro character materials. Given his rumored support role, prioritizing artifacts with Energy Recharge and ATK% substats would be wise.

Current Meta Considerations

While waiting for Durin’s release, continue investing in existing Pyro supports, as they’ll remain viable even after his arrival. The meta rarely completely invalidates established characters.
