Version 5.8 of Genshin Impact delivered some of the most mind-blowing lore revelations in the game’s history, fundamentally changing how we understand Teyvat’s past and present. From Venti’s shocking confession about Mare Jivari to Bennett’s heartbreaking origin story, this update packed more world-building than most entire regions. Many players rushed through the main events, potentially missing crucial details that reshape everything we thought we knew.

The Biggest Lore Genshin Impact Bombshells from Version 5.8

Genshin Impact’s version 5.8 update stood out for the amount of lore it revealed via quests, giving players new perspectives on the history of Teyvat. Let’s break down the six most significant revelations that deserve your attention.

1. Venti’s Ultimate Sacrifice: The Truth About Mare Jivari

The most shocking revelation involves Venti himself admitting that he was the one who erased Mare Jivari from the current timeline. This legendary “Windless Land” wasn’t destroyed by natural disaster—the Anemo Archon deliberately removed it from existence to prevent Abyssal corruption from consuming all of Teyvat.

The Devastating Cost: Countless souls were left trapped in Mare Jivari with no leylines to return to. Venti’s decision saved the world but condemned these souls to eternal limbo, transforming Mare Jivari into an ashy wasteland dotted with red, fiery flowers.

2. The Thirteen Dragonlords and Moon Wheel Mystery

The quest also introduced the concept of the Moon Wheel, which is like a gem with pure elemental energy that resembles a Vision but is raw and unfiltered. This discovery connects to Ancient Natlan’s most powerful rulers—the Thirteen Dragonlords who served under Xiuhcoatl the Pyro Sovereign.

Key Dragonlord Revelations

Discovery	Significance	Future Implications
Ineffa’s Core	11th Dragonlord remnant	Links to AI sentient constructs
Moon Wheel Origins	Built by the usurper and Moon Sisters	Hints at Nod-Krai storyline
Phlogiston Usage	Raw elemental power source	Connection to Natlan’s energy system

3. Venti’s Divine Connection to Istaroth

For the first time, Genshin Impact confirmed Venti’s link to Istaroth, the Shade of Time. Before becoming an Archon, Venti was merely a wind wisp who encountered the Shade of Time and received a fragment of her power.

This divine gift explains how Venti possessed the ability to manipulate time itself, enabling him to erase Mare Jivari from Teyvat’s timeline. The full extent of what Venti wished for from Istaroth remains mysteriously unclear.

4. Bennett’s Heartbreaking Natlan Origin

The most emotionally devastating revelation concerns Bennett’s true heritage. He was born to Aroni and Macani years ago, who were part of an adventure team that had lost their way and slipped into the Mare Jivari.

The Ultimate Sacrifice: His parents and all the members of the team gave up their souls in exchange for Bennett to live and survive. This explains Bennett’s lifelong misfortune—without Natlan’s unique leyline blessing, he’s been cursed with bad luck throughout his life in Mondstadt.

The 5.8 event allowed Bennett to finally reunite with his parents’ souls, giving them peace and closure after years of suffering.

5. The Tragic Truth Behind the Asha

These are revealed to be the souls who have been lost or trapped in Mare Jivari. The colorful, playful beings players encountered during the Easybreeze Summer Resort aren’t just cute creatures—they’re the transformed souls of warriors and travelers who couldn’t return to their homelands.

Instead of succumbing to despair, these trapped souls adapted by becoming artistic, color-loving spirits, turning their tragedy into something unexpectedly beautiful.

6. The Bakunawa’s Terrifying Return

Perhaps the most ominous discovery involves the legendary Bakunawa. Enjou further confirms that all of its fragments are awaiting the day to come together and form the real Bakunawa that was recorded in history.

This Abyssal beast, potentially enhanced by Rhinedottir, devoured time itself and could regenerate endlessly. Though seemingly defeated, recent sightings near Mare Jivari suggest its return may be inevitable.
