In Punjab, the state government has declared a public holiday in honor of both Gandhi Jayanti and Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti, which falls on October 3rd. Schools and government offices will remain closed for these two days. Maharaja Agrasen, an ancient king known for his emphasis on equality and social welfare, is particularly revered by the Vaishya community. On his birth anniversary, which is celebrated on the fourth day of Ashwin in the Hindu calendar, the community organizes various events to honor his legacy.

Additionally, October 3rd has been declared a “Dry Day” in Punjab, meaning liquor shops will also remain closed. This extended holiday period coincides with several other significant festivals in the Hindu calendar, making October a festive month. Along with Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti, Punjab will observe holidays for Dussehra on October 12th and Valmiki Jayanti on October 17th, allowing people to enjoy a long string of celebrations this month.
