Japanese gaming console manufacturer Nintendo has apparently ordered game developers to make games for 4k consoles and keep them on standby, as they seek to increase their production of existing Nintendo Switch consoles by 20%. It would only seem to confirm the fact that their consoles could be getting an upgrade on their gaming resolution.

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki, “Several outside game developers, speaking anonymously as the issue is private, said that Nintendo has asked them to make their games 4K-ready, suggesting a resolution upgrade is on its way.”

Although it is unclear on how and whether or not a 4K gaming console would actually be released, in recent times the upscale in production means that Nintendo is anticipating a good deal of demand for their Switch consoles and so it is believed that they would be operating at a production capacity of 120%.

It sounds surprising, however, as the Switch has not exactly impressed since its inception in 2016 with its innovation and underpowered display panel – considering users can just as usually purchase PlayStation or Xbox consoles and products. In any case, Nintendo believes that the sales will notch up over the November-December period especially during Christmas, and so any technology and performance-related upgrades will have to come soon.

If the 4k consoles indeed come out, they could consist of the DLSS 2.0 technology integration by NVIDIA. There are some new changes planned on the design front for the new Nintendo Switch. Filed for a patent in 2018, the “Joy-Con” controller means there would not be a need for a handheld mode. In addition, they have also appealed to specific gaming popularity bases such as Fortnite fans, where they are going to launch a new edition of existing Nintendo Switch consoles with the blue and yellow theme. All in all, the house of Mario themed games could be making some serious moves.
