Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 to Feature Solely Snapdragon Chips, New Case Renders Emerge

Insider sources claimed to TheElec, however, that Samsung is returning to a single-chip solution with its next foldable: the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Sad, but true! That could challenge previous reports in which Samsung was believed to take on a dual-chip strategy for its upcoming foldables. Yet the fact remains that opting to pair it with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip rather than slotting in an Exynos 2400 isn’t exactly performance-driven—it’s more of a pragmatic decision around keeping prices low.

More About Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 With Single Chip

The issue with having two different chip platforms (the Exynos 2400 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) was that it would require extra resources to develop for and provide post-sales support. It would appear that Samsung did the math and decided that if it made an economically superior dual-chip approach too, projected sales volume wouldn’t be high enough to offset the incremental cost of going this route.

But that doesn’t mean Samsung is bearish about its foldable phone sales prospects. Although the market heats up each year, every new version of the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series accounts for just a small fraction of the overall number that Samsung provides to its S series.

Also, tech analyst Roland Quandt has shared the case renders revealing the design of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6. Although the renders don’t show anything new that we didn’t already know, Quandt highlights these come from a reliable source. That’s in reference to where the images surfaced based on unforeseen authentication of features.

In the end, Samsung’s return to (mostly) single-chip strategy for foldable appears to be a pragmatic decision driven by unit volume and cost-efficiency requirements, as with all these decisions involving which technology to integrate and potentially bring in-house, Apple was ultimately forced to look at how it wants to balance staying ahead of the technology curve while also looking after its margins given the competitive environment. With excitement mounting around the launch of Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, Samsung’s methodical strategy demonstrates just how many behind-the-scenes factors there are to navigate the roadmap for foldable innovation.
