After a brief flirtation with smaller phones, brands have returned to slimness as a major selling point. Samsung, for example, is said to be working on a Galaxy S25 Slim variant to compete with Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 Air. Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim: Launch Date, Specs, and Rivalry with iPhone 17 Air Revealed
The Galaxy S25 Slim (model number SM-S937x/DS) may arrive in Q2 2025, suggesting a lack of launch alongside the rest of the Galaxy S25 family in January, according to tipster Debayan Roy. Tipster Ice Universe also stands behind this schedule. Roy hints that the Slim model will ideally line up with the launch timelines of the Galaxy A and Galaxy FE series, though with the Galaxy S24 FE scheduled for September 2024 (Q3), and the Galaxy A55 for March 2024 (Q1), it remains a bit of a mess.
Samsung’s goal of a more powerful yet tradeable compact form factor for smartphones will initially be in the Galaxy S lineup, with the entry point called the Galaxy S25 Slim expected to measure around 6mm thick versus the 7.6mm Galaxy S24. For reference, the iPhone 17 Air is expected 6.25mm thick. Despite its thin chassis, the S25 Slim should still pack a battery size of 4,700mAh to 5,000mAh, up from the Galaxy S24’s 4,000mAh battery. The company might borrow from the silicon carbon anode technology battery used in the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro.
If the S25 Slim has a 6.66-inch screen, it would also place it in the same ballpark as the Galaxy S24+ (6.7 inches). This could feature a 200MP HP5 primary sensor, assisted by a 50MP JN5 ultrawide lens and a 50MP JN5 3.5x telephoto camera. Expect the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC to power the device, so Samsung is not slacking on the hardware. We’ll learn more as we get closer to its Q2 2025 launch. The iPhone 17 Air will launch in late 2025 as well, and it’d be interesting to see how these two slim devices compare.
