“Friends” Just Quietly Returned to Netflix — But Not Where You’d Expect

For years, losing “Friends” from Netflix felt like a slow, painful breakup — one region at a time, until the Central Perk gang had all but vanished from the platform worldwide. Now, in a surprise twist nobody saw coming, the sitcom has snuck back onto Netflix in dozens of countries. There’s just one catch: your country might not be one of them.

Friends, the beloved 1990s sitcom, was once Netflix’s biggest library asset, quietly racking up massive watch time year after year even as it began disappearing territory by territory. That exodus was driven by Warner Bros. Discovery pulling the show back for its own streaming platform, HBO Max, as it expanded internationally. The U.S. lost it first, back in 2020, with the U.K. among the last holdouts, losing access in late 2025.

Where “Friends” Is (and Isn’t) Available Now?

Why This Matters More Than It Seems

This isn’t just nostalgia bait — it’s a signal. Despite years off Netflix in most places, “Friends” still pulled in a staggering 2.22 billion viewing hours globally between 2023 and 2025, translating to roughly 244.5 million views. That’s a show barely available anywhere, still performing like a current hit.

The return also lines up with a bigger pattern: Warner Bros. Television has been steadily re-licensing content to Netflix over the past year, especially amid Netflix’s now-abandoned pursuit of acquiring Warner Bros. entirely. Whether this signals a fuller reunion down the line — including the U.S. and U.K. — remains unclear, but the door is clearly open again.

For now, fans in the newly added regions can binge Ross, Rachel, and the gang once more, while everyone else waits (and maybe considers an HBO Max subscription).
