FC Barcelona suffers a huge blow as their No. 21 suffers an injury in the soleus of his right leg. It all happened in the opening game of Barcelona against Mallorca where the Dutchman got substituted at the end of the match.

He was then in the substitution bench for the match against Leganes but was never brought until he missed the trip to Sevilla due to injury. But today, the club officially stated that he has faced a leg injury, here’s the official statement:

The clinical follow-up on Frenkie De Jong has uncovered an injury in the soleus of his right leg. The evolution of the injury will condition the player’s availability. Barça’s No.21 is in his first season as a player at FC Barcelona and has played a total of 38 games, 27 of them in the league.

Thus far, the Dutchman has only missed three matches in the domestic competition, the last one coming this past Friday against Sevilla.

However, as of now, there’s no time span stated by the club for the recovery of the Dutchman, who has been the key part of Setien’s team. This implies that we will get to see more appearances from the likes of Arthur, Ivan Rakitic and impressive youth Riqui Puig over the course of next few matches, which are very crucial in this title race.
