Two PlayStation exclusive games’ servers are being shut down and this news comes as quite a shock. Uncharted, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us, God of War, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo, Death Stranding, Shadow of the Colossus, Infamous, and Ratchet & Clank are just a few of the games and franchises that have helped PlayStation build its most recent reputation of having outstanding exclusive’s and they are some of the titles which the company has created and funded.
The PlayStation Vita is one PlayStation system that doesn’t have many outstanding exclusives, owing to Sony’s rapid dismissal of it due to poor sales. It did, however, include exclusives such as Freedom Wars and Soul Sacrifice, both of which are closing down their servers on December 24, 2021.
As Tweet Vita Review points out on Twitter, both games may be played solo and offline; but, both games were designed to be played online, and both have an active, if tiny, player population.
It’s unknown why each game’s servers are being shut down at the time of publication, but it’s probable that the expenses simply outweigh the advantages of keeping them up. As one might assume, PlayStation has kept somewhat quiet about the news, only announcing it on the Japanese edition of the official PlayStation website thus far.
In terms of games, Freedom Wars is a Japanese action role-playing game created by the now-defunct Japan Studio solely for the PlayStation Vita. It was launched in 2014 and is regarded as one of the console’s finest games by some, despite receiving just a 73 on Metacritic and selling poorly.
Soul Sacrifice, created by the same team with the assistance of Marvelous, was published in 2013. It, too, is a Japanese action RPG with a Metacritic score of 77 and a sales performance comparable to Freedom Wars.
