Four Hands, Two Sonatas Preview: Song Kang and Lee Jun Young Turn From Friends to Fierce Rivals

Friendship takes a backseat when the stage lights come on. tvN’s piano-driven drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas is set to deliver its biggest turning point yet, as Song Kang and Lee Jun Young’s characters face each other not as practice partners, but as genuine competitors at an international piano competition.

Four Hands, Two Sonatas: Overview

Four Hands, Two Sonatas: The Story So Far

Four Hands, Two Sonatas follows two students who meet at an arts high school and grow into professional pianists, tracing their bond through friendship, rivalry, and personal growth. Kang Pio (Song Kang) and Choi Jeong Yo (Lee Jun Young) previously pushed each other to improve — Kang Pio helped his friend overcome stage fright, while Choi Jeong Yo introduced him to the joy of playing more freely, beyond rigid technical rules.

Why This Competition Hits Differently

In the upcoming episode, that supportive dynamic gets tested in the highest-stakes way possible: a head-to-head international competition. The emotional weight is amplified by Kang Pio’s grandfather, who has consistently dismissed his grandson’s talent while praising Choi Jeong Yo instead — turning this performance into more than just a musical showdown.

New stills capture the shift in their dynamic vividly. While seated at the piano, both characters appear completely locked into their performances. But in the audience, their body language tells different stories — Kang Pio stares ahead with quiet determination, while Choi Jeong Yo, attending his first international competition, looks visibly more alert to his surroundings.

Why Fans Are Excited

Rivalries rooted in genuine affection tend to hit harder emotionally, and this storyline leans into exactly that tension — two friends pushed into direct competition by circumstances neither fully controls. It’s a compelling setup that raises the emotional stakes without sacrificing the show’s central themes of growth and connection.
