Fortnite Ranked Play gets teased by Epic Games on Twitter

Yesterday, Epic Games shared an intriguing video teaser on Twitter, hinting at the possible introduction of Fortnite Ranked Play in the Battle Royale mode. The tweet encouraged Fortnite players to “rise through the ranks,” accompanied by a series of logos representing different ranks that could be featured in Fortnite Ranked Play.

Coinciding with the tweet, players noticed a new tab within the game that sported one of the logos from the teaser. A Reddit user named TK-on-Alt captured a snapshot of the tab, revealing a potential start date for Fortnite Ranked Play on May 16th.

Within the Fortnite community, there is a pressing question regarding the fate of Arena, the current primary competitive game mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Arena utilizes a system where players earn Hype, a currency obtained through eliminations and placements, to determine their ranking within the League. Accumulating enough points allows players to qualify for cash cups and tournaments. However, Arena imposes restrictions on certain items, such as Grenades and Rocket Launchers.

However, many fans believe that Arena falls short as a competitive mode. The introduction of Fortnite Ranked Play could potentially reinvigorate the competitive scene within the Battle Royale mode.

In the meantime, it’s important to note that Fortnite Battle Royale is currently hosting the “Find the Force” event, which marks a return to the Star Wars universe. Players have the option to choose Anakin Skywalker or Obi-Wan Kenobi as Jedi Trainers, or they can opt for Darth Maul as a Sith Trainer.

The event introduces enhanced gameplay mechanics, including force abilities like pulling, pushing, and throwing objects. Equipping a lightsaber allows players to sprint faster and execute double jumps, fitting for Force users. Additionally, the iconic DC-15 Blaster assault rifle has been incorporated into the game.

However, these abilities and items are presently disabled in the Arena mode and tournaments, and it’s likely that they will also be excluded from the upcoming Fortnite Ranked Play. Epic Games has indicated the potential inclusion of these features following the conclusion of FNCS Major 2. The “Find the Force” event is scheduled to run until May 23rd at 9 AM Eastern Time.
