Florentino Perez praises Ramos and Zidane as they guide Real Madrid to the 2019-20 LaLiga title

Zinedine Zidane returned to Real Madrid for his second stint at the fag end of last season. It was a disastrous campaign for Real Madrid as they were knocked out by Ajax in the Champions League and was also out of the LaLiga title race pretty easily last season.

At the start of this season, Zidane said that winning the LaLiga is the priority as Madrid won their last league title back in 2017. Zidane has kept his words. He almost had the same team as last season with the only exception being Ferland Mendy. Eden Hazard was injured for the majority of the season while Jovic wasn’t used much by Zidane.

Zidane focused on making a watertight defence and club captain Sergio Ramos played a huge part in the backline. Courtois was also excellent behind the bars and has kept 18 clean sheets in LaLiga till date.

Club captain Sergio Ramos led Real Madrid from the front. From conceding the fewest goals in LaLiga to netting 10 goals in LaLiga and becoming the highest-scoring defender in LaLiga in the process. He scored 5 goals in their last 10 matches, an incredible stat for a defender!

Benzema was also in top form in front of goal. He has 21 league goals and has always helped the team immensely in building the attacks.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was all praise for Zidane and Ramos. Ramos’s contract ends after next season but he wants to retire at the club if Perez allows.

Perez told Movistar: “Ramos will surely end his career at Madrid. Although there is talk of that, it will not change, everyone is calm. He is more than a captain. He has led the team with enormous leadership.”

Zidane’s men haven’t always played the most impressive or beautiful football but it was their hard work and consistency along with Zidane’s man-management which won them the 2019-20 LaLiga title.

Perez said about club legend Zidane: “He has won a title every 19 games. It is a blessing from heaven and that he is with us for a long time. They criticise him for what they want. We will continue to win titles.”

“We have trained well and we have had the mentality to return with the desire to win this title. The strength we had has been seen by everyone. It will go down in Madrid’s history.”
