Real Madrid have officially confirmed the departure of academy product Víctor Valdepeñas, with the 19-year-old Spanish defender making the move to Serie A side Fiorentina. The transfer brings to a close an eight-year association between Valdepeñas and the Spanish giants, with the player now set to embark on the next chapter of his career in Florence.

“Real Madrid CF and ACF Fiorentina have agreed to the transfer of our player Víctor Valdepeñas,” the club confirmed in an official statement.

The Deal Structure

The move is done on a permanent basis, with Fiorentina having agreed to pay Real Madrid €8 million, with Los Blancos retaining a 50% sell-on percentage and a buyback option.

The club will retain 50% of any future transfer and has also secured a repurchase option covering the next three seasons, with the value of that option expected to fall between €10 million and €12 million.

The structure allows Valdepeñas to continue his development through regular first-team football while allowing Madrid to bring him back at a controlled price.

Why Fiorentina Signed Valdepeñas

The left-footed defender can operate centrally or at left-back, giving Fiorentina flexibility across the defensive line.

Valdepeñas had attracted interest from several top European clubs in recent months, with Arsenal and AC Milan closely monitoring the Real Madrid prospect, but Fiorentina moved decisively to win the race for his signature.

Fiorentina will give him a clearer pathway to senior minutes in a major European league. The structure of the deal allows Real Madrid to retain significant control over Valdepeñas’ future while giving the 19-year-old an opportunity to continue his development in Serie A.

What It Means For Real Madrid

The Valdepeñas fee is modest by Real Madrid’s usual standards, but it fits a pattern this summer: the club has already moved on academy products from its La Fábrica production line, including Nico Paz, Álvaro Rodríguez and Mario Gila, as it looks to balance the books.

Real Madrid thanked Valdepeñas for his commitment over all these years and wished him and his family all the best in this new stage of their lives.

Despite the departure, Los Blancos have not completely severed ties. Madrid can monitor his progress and decide over the next three summers whether to activate the repurchase clause.
