The Barcelona squad reportedly had a gathering at Lionel Messi’s place, following their 3-2 victory against Valencia. According to the news reports coming out of Spain, chants of “Campeones” could be heard outside Messi’s house, which would indicate a celebration or a preemption.
If it was a celebration, it could be for Barcelona’s recent Copa del Rey victory against Athletic Club Bilbao. If it were a preemption, it could be for the high stakes game against Atletico Madrid coming up this weekend. Before such a big game, it is essential that the team remains on the same page.
Boosting morale could have also been the main reason for the gathering, and considering Barcelona’s recent good form, it is necessary for them to keep it up if they hope to win the league. Even if they win all their remaining games, Barcelona have to rely on either Atletico Madrid or Real Madrid to drop points to give them an advantage in the race.
Considering a rather uncertain possibility as well, it could be an early farewell party for Leo Messi, who is yet to extend his contract with the Blaugrana. Multiple reports have indicated that a move to PSG could be on the horizon, in addition to a reunion with Neymar.
However, the season is not quite over and the LaLiga title is still to play for which would make the farewell party narrative powerless.
