Family Force: Cha Seung Won, Ra Mi Ran and Park Hyung Sik Turn a Marine Family Into Korea’s Next Action-Comedy Squad

What Is the Story About?

The film follows a Marine Corps family who take on a terrorist threat, not with combat skills or intelligence, but with the power of family. Cha Seung Won plays Cheol Doo, a former Marine Corps master sergeant who lives by the family motto, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.” While visiting the hospital where his father is being treated, he is dragged into a multinational terrorist plot alongside his wife and their son.

It’s an unusual mix: a family comedy at heart, with high-stakes action on top. The terrorist attack takes place at a major hospital in Seoul, so the setting is as tense as it is surprising.

Meet the Cast

Ra Mi Ran plays Ye Bun, Cheol Doo’s wife and the emotional pillar of the family. Park Hyung Sik returns to the big screen as Cheol Hoon, the couple’s son and a sergeant in the Marine Corps Special Reconnaissance Unit. He gets caught up in the attack while on his final vacation before discharge, which is exactly the kind of bad timing a good comedy needs.

Veteran actor Baek Yoon Shik plays Cheol Seong, a decorated first-generation Marine and war veteran who serves as the family’s patriarch. Chang Ryul plays Tae In, the mysterious man who carries out the attack alongside multinational terrorists.

A Director Known for Action

The film is directed by Won Shin Yeon, known for Korean films such as Memoir of a Murderer, The Suspect and Seven Days. After a long preparation period, he says he’s excited to create a high-quality film with such a wonderful cast and crew.

What the Stars Are Saying?

Cha Seung Won says it’s a story about a family coming together, but not an ordinary family, which made the script more fun to read. Ra Mi Ran admits she was a little nervous about returning to action after a long time, but feels reassured by the director’s clear vision. Park Hyung Sik says he was excited even before the script reading at the thought of working with such great senior actors. His return, his first film in roughly seven years, is a big draw for fans of Park Hyung-sik.
