Fabio Vieira to Arsenal official for €40m; Squad number announced

Fabio Vieira has been officially announced as a new Arsenal player, completing his transfer to the North London side from Porto. The attacking midfielder joins for a fee worth €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons. 

He has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal after completing his medical tests for the deal to go through. The club has announced that he will be wearing the number 21 shirt in the coming season. 

Fabio Vieira officially announced by Arsenal 

Here is what first team manager Mikel Arteta said upon the confirmation of the transfer: “I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent. Fabio is a very creative player that will bring high quality and versatility to our attacking play. We welcome Fabio and his family to our club and are looking forward to starting work with him ahead of the new season.”

The 22-year-old joins Arsenal on the back of a successful domestic season with Porto. He has been with them since 2008, and helped the team to the Primeira Liga last season. Vieira scored six goals and assisted 14 in the league in 27 appearances, showcasing his quality thoroughly in the process.

Sporting director Edu has hinted that more good news is to come after the confirmation of Fabio Vieira’s transfer. Gabriel Jesus is the priority for the Gunners, and they are in advanced stages of wrapping up the deal with Manchester City.
