Chen’s Heartfelt Message to Fans

Through Bubble, Chen reassured worried fans, saying he’s healthy in both body and mind. Despite facing what he called “gloomy things,” the vocalist encouraged everyone to stay hopeful. His message urged fans to “smile and get through it,” showcasing his resilient spirit during challenging times.

The timing of Chen’s message is significant. It comes as EXO prepares for a major reunion—one that won’t include him or his EXO-CBX bandmates Baekhyun and Xiumin.

The Legal Battle Explained

The conflict between Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin (collectively known as EXO-CBX), and SM Entertainment began in 2023 when the trio accused their label of locking them in unfair, long-term contracts. They requested court intervention to terminate these agreements.

Initially, there seemed to be a compromise. The members could continue EXO group activities under SM Entertainment while pursuing solo projects through their own label. However, tensions reignited when SM Entertainment alleged that the three members failed to pay their 10% revenue share as stipulated in their agreement.

Recent court documents show the court has sided with SM Entertainment, concluding the company didn’t act unlawfully or mislead CBX in any way. This legal setback makes the future of EXO-CBX’s relationship with SM Entertainment increasingly uncertain.

EXO’s Reunion Without CBX

SM Entertainment announced EXO’s fan meet for December 13-14 at Inspire Arena in Inchon, but only six members—Suho, Chanyeol, D.O., Sehun, Kai, and Lay—will participate. The absence of Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin has disappointed many fans hoping for a complete OT9 reunion.

SM Entertainment stated they find it “impossible to continue EXO group activities together” as long as CBX denies the validity of their exclusive contract and related agreements. This official stance suggests a prolonged separation between the parties.

Chen’s Thriving Solo Career

Despite the legal turmoil, Chen continues flourishing as a solo artist. His 5th mini-album Arcadia, featuring tracks like “Help Me (Somebody 2 Love),” topped iTunes album charts in 14 regions, including Mexico, Argentina, and Thailand.

The vocalist also held his first-ever solo concert in Seoul in October, demonstrating his strong individual fanbase and artistic capabilities. These achievements prove Chen remains a formidable force in K-pop’s competitive landscape.

What This Means for EXO’s Future

The EXO-CBX lawsuit represents a growing trend in K-pop where artists challenge their management companies for better contract terms. While the legal process continues, fans remain divided between supporting their favorite idols and hoping for group reconciliation.

For now, Chen’s message emphasizes positivity and resilience—qualities that have defined his decade-long career with EXO.
