EXCLUSIVE: AMD Ryzen 7000 experience event shows promising signs for Indian gamers & enthusiasts

Today, AMD organised the Ryzen 7000 series experience event in Mumbai for the press and we got to attend it, again marking its strong Indian presence. Did you know? A major chunk of AMD’s engineering team is from India. Well, it also focuses more on the Indian talent to develop newer tech like Zen 4 which is the architecture behind Ryzen 7000.

At the event, Srinivas M Reddy, who is the Country Head – Channel Sales & Distribution, presented more about these new amazing processors. He talked about Zen 4, its efficiency benefits, and a major jump in IPC and gaming performance. Also, AMD is on track to launch new RDNA3 GPUs along with new Bergamo server chips being delivered to OEMs as expected.

Certainly putting faith in the emerging Indian market, Srinivas talked about how from day 1 global availability these processors have made it into the Indian market as well. As they say, the initial response is good and I did check that the prices are quite stable at major retailers.

So, even with the benchmarks and numbers that were shown when compared to the 12th Gen Intel lineup, AMD is actually demolishing Intel. The interesting thing which has not been shown in the marketing graphs and comparisons is the actual TDP that these 5 nm-based chips consume during workload.

Yet among all AM5 platform benefits that were talked about like DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5, AMD also said that the platform support will be until 2025 and could even extend further if possible as it happened with AM4. Obviously, again the cost of the platform will be higher but still, the situation is much better than when Intel launched the 12th Gen in the market.

When asked about what AMD is planning against the newer 13th Gen Intel Raptor Lake, they have said their full focus is currently to compete is what is in the market by Intel and not which hasn’t launched yet. However, with more room in the 5 nm-based Ryzen chip and their 3D V-Cache tech in the sleeves, you cannot rule out a future refresh next year.

While AMD’s older Ryzen 7 5800X3D is again shining in terms of gaming performance, however, AMD Ryzen 7000 series brings single-core improvements across the board. These 4 new chips can easily reach 5GHz which goes to show their sheer performance when you give enough TDP.

This comes at the cost of heavy cooling which is again debatable because its true performance cannot be unlocked if you provide enough cooling. Now we also came to know that AMD has increased the safe temperature limit of these new Ryzen 7000 chips to 105 degrees celsius, a 10-degree increase compared to the previous.

When we talked to the system integrators who have been testing these new AMD chips, older ones and the 12th Gen Intel chips. We got to see AMD is totally crushing in synthetic benchmarks especially those numbers in multi-core are incredible for the Ryzen 9s.

The newer 12-core Ryzen 9 7900X is giving Core i9 12900K level performance drawing lesser TDP than Intel which is again impressive. While most people were sceptical about power draws, Amay GTEK assured that if users want they can undervolt to reduce temperatures.

Even in eco mode the Ryzen 9 7950X has given similar performance to a full-blown Ryzen 9 5950X that was rated at 105W previously. So, again the efficiency is impressive but most users will love more performance and at least for these Ryzen 7000X series chips the power draw is higher and requires proper cooling to unlock its full potential.

So, anyone who does want a chip in a lesser thermal envelope can again opt for the cheaper Ryzen 5000 series which has got major price drops following Ryzen 7000 series. Or, one can easily wait for a few months for the entire lineup with more efficient chips to get launched surely at CES.

Also, a lot of people won’t know that these new Ryzen 7000 chips have integrated RDNA2 iGPU this time by default on all chips. This makes it easier to work and for those who don’t want to buy a GPU anyways. We also asked whether we could see beefed-up APU from AMD with more RDNA2 iGPU cores and Zen 4 cores. AMD again didn’t rule it out completely but yet they chose to tell that they won’t comment on future products yet.

Well, seeing these new AMD chips, is great news for gamers, content creators and PC enthusiasts. However, personally, I am also excited about the notebook chips suspected to launch at CES and also about new RDNA3 GPUs which could again change the gaming industry soon.
