What Exactly Is Kuuvahki?

Kuuvahki represents a pure, primordial form of elemental energy originating from the Three Moons of Teyvat—the Eternal Moon, Iridescent Moon, and Frost Moon from ancient lore. In Nod-Krai, this energy appears fundamental to both the machinery and wildlife composition, with animals and mechanisms relying on it for functionality.

Genshin Impact

The Frostmoon Scions call it the “blessing of the Moon Goddess,” while researchers at Snezhnograd coined the scientific term “Kuuvahki.” This dual naming reflects its spiritual significance and practical applications within the region.

How the Electromagnetic System Works

Think of Kuuvahki as magnetism meets lunar magic. Two main types exist: red and blue polarities that have opposite charges, causing them to repel objects of the same color and attract objects of the opposite color.

When you approach special glowing plants called Moonshine Violets, your character enters an “empowered state.” This allows you to solve puzzles, remove obstacles, approach wild animals, or enhance exploration capabilities throughout Nod-Krai. The mechanic functions similarly to Anemograna or Electrograna from previous regions, but with significantly more complexity.

Unipolar vs Bipolar Objects

Some entities and objects associate with only one polarity (unipolar), while others associate with both (bipolar). When empowered, you can attract bipolar objects and pull them toward yourself. Some can be carried manually, while others automatically enter your inventory.

Transforming into Kuuhenki: Moon Spirit Mode

When players accumulate enough Kuuvahki energy, they can temporarily transform into a Kuuhenki to increase their mobility. This transformation happens near plants affected by Kuuvahki and creates one of the most exhilarating traversal experiences in Genshin Impact.

Similar to Spiritways, you can ride the Highway of Light to reach destinations much faster. These Moonlanes function as aerial highways that ignore terrain completely without consuming stamina—imagine crossing entire map sections without touching the ground.

Solving Kuuvahki Puzzles Like a Pro

Nod-Krai features numerous puzzles utilizing this electromagnetic system. When encountering mechanisms with red and blue force fields (magnet color puzzles), using different colors with your Kuuvahki makes mechanisms move closer to you, while using the same colors pushes them farther away.

The Lightning Mechanic

Kuuvahki Relay Mechanisms attract lightning strikes easily, and carrying one summons a lightning bolt at your position. These mechanisms appear in strong Kuuvahki environments where thunderstorms persist.

Smart players use this mechanic strategically—position yourself near puzzle elements requiring lightning strikes while carrying the Relay Mechanism, then simply wait for the strike. You can only carry one at a time, but dropping one near puzzle elements produces the same effect.

Important: Until you complete the “Power of Research” quest line, Kuuvahki-charged lightning damages your character. Once finished, an NPC provides protection making the lightning completely harmless.

Combat Applications: Lunar Reactions

Kuuvahki introduces new combat reactions exclusive to Nod-Krai. Lunar-Charged buffs enhance Electro attacks against Automatons and Fatui enemies, while Lunar-Bloom reactions convert standard Bloom effects into high-damage variants with critical potential.

Characters from the region like Lauma (Dendro) and Flins (Electro) excel with these mechanics. Aino, a free 4-star Hydro Claymore character obtained through completing the Nod-Krai Archon Quest, provides solid support for free-to-play players.

The Deep Lore Connection

Kuuvahki remains mysterious regarding its true purpose even in Nod-Krai’s main storyline. The Fatui established a research station specifically to gather information and harness Kuuvahki’s power, with Harbinger Sandrone (“Marionette”) arriving to claim the moon’s power.

The energy’s connection to Teyvat’s ancient moon deities suggests deeper narrative implications. As the story progresses, players can expect Kuuvahki to remain a key focus, revealing more about the forgotten history of the moons and their lasting impact on Teyvat’s future.

Practical Exploration Tips

Source Priority: Moonshine Violet plants provide the longest-lasting empowerment. Elemental creatures and specialized robots offer alternatives when plants aren’t nearby.

Object Manipulation: You can only carry one Kuuvahki-influenced object at a time. Picking up another or exiting the empowered state drops the current object immediately.

Wildlife Interaction: While having a Kuuhenki companion, you can interact with different things in the overworld like picking up Portable Bearings, Icy Pebbles, and Kuuvahki Dewdrops.

Combat Strategy: Team compositions benefit from mixing Nod-Krai characters with traditional supports. The Ascendant Gleam bonus requires two Nod-Krai characters but provides 36% damage increase from non-Nod-Krai teammates.

Where to Experience It

Kuuvahki appears throughout Nod-Krai’s three main islands: Lempo Isle (near Nasha Town) for introductory mechanics, Hiisi Island for complex arrangements around sacred areas, and Paha Isle containing challenging configurations near the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau.

Access requires completing Mondstadt Prologue: Act III. The official Genshin Impact site provides comprehensive guides for unlocking the region and starting the Archon Quests.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when I can use Kuuvahki powers in Genshin Impact?

Watch for visual cues when exploring Nod-Krai—Moonshine Violet plants and other Kuuvahki sources will glow distinctly when you approach them. Plants affected by Kuuvahki change appearance: most start glowing, and some gently spin or lean toward your character. A special button prompt appears on-screen when you’re close enough to absorb the energy. Once empowered, you’ll see a red or blue aura around your character indicating which polarity you’re carrying. The empowered state lasts 300 seconds (5 minutes), giving you plenty of time to solve puzzles or traverse challenging terrain. If you see floating red and blue spherical objects or mechanisms with colored force fields, those areas require Kuuvahki interaction.

Can I use Kuuvahki mechanics with any character, or do I need specific Nod-Krai characters?

Every character in your roster can use basic Kuuvahki exploration mechanics—absorbing energy from plants, transforming into Kuuhenki for aerial traversal, solving electromagnetic puzzles, and carrying relay mechanisms. The system functions independently of character elements or origins, making it universally accessible once you reach Nod-Krai. However, the special combat reactions (Lunar-Bloom and Lunar-Charged) provide significant bonuses when using characters from Nod-Krai like Lauma, Flins, and Aino. These characters unlock additional damage modifiers and team synergies specific to the region. For pure exploration purposes, bring your favorite characters—for combat optimization in Nod-Krai domains and against regional enemies, consider building at least two Nod-Krai characters to maximize the Ascendant Gleam passive bonus.
