Erling Haaland has equalled Mohamed Salah’s 2017/18 record of scoring 32 goals in one season. The Manchester City forward scored twice as his side defeated Leicester City 3-1 to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal. He was withdrawn at half time, considering City will face Bayern Munich in midweek and need their players at their best.
The 22-year-old first scored from the penalty spot, after Wilfried Ndidi gave away a handball. He was then assisted by Kevin De Bruyne for his second goal, which helped him match the record.
Erling Haaland matches Mohamed Salah’s 32-goal record
There are still eight games to go for the Norwegian in the season, and he has arguably been the best player in the league by a long shot. The all-time Premier top scorer award belongs to Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who scored 34 goals in one season when there were 42 games in a season.
In spite of having four less games to earn the record, Erling Haaland could equal the 34-goal mark in the very next game. And if he manages to stay injury free, he could hit a 40-goal figure by the time the season is over.
Ever since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, the Manchester City number 9 has been on fire. He has been breaking records every week in the English top flight, and has undoubtedly played a legendary first season.
