Epic Games Removes Fortnite from Galaxy Store, Plans to Launch on AltStore for iOS Users in the EU

Epic Games has revealed its new plan for mobile gaming that indicates a dramatic step forward in how it plans to publish one of the most popular games out on mobile. But the company said it plans to make Fortnite and other popular games available through third-party app stores that charge lower fees for developers.

This brings Fortnite back to iOS in the European Union and also marks the first new markets for Epic Games Store on Android worldwide and to iOS in the European Union, following recent approval from Apple for the Epic Games Store app.

All About the Epic Games and Fortnite

The Epic Games Store offers some favorable terms for developers, such as the company taking only a 12 percent cut from payments processed through its store and no fees at all on third-party payments. Epic Games wants to distribute its games where the terms are fair and plan to sever ties with stores that do not provide competitive or fair conditions, regardless of any special deals they might offer.

This work has been picking up globally, as the company has also called for fair competition based on the app store information of iOS and Android. This includes Europe, the DMA-conscious continent, and possibly other similar regulations in the UK or Japan for example plus regular ongoing regulatory investigations. Epic also spoke about its “progress” in the US litigation against Google that has yet to come to trial.

It’s how Epic runs the store and that it wants good things for other developers too, as operators of the Epic Games Store; it just wishes more stores would operate like this. But only yesterday, Epic thought that its European mobile games would soon be on AltStore for iOS and has plans to support at least two other third-party stores very shortly.

Epic Games will also remove Fortnite and other titles from the Samsung Galaxy Store. This decision is in response to Samsung’s anti-competitive Auto Blocker in One UI 6.1.1, which blocks sideloading by default and prevents app installations from unauthorized sources. The Epic Games Store is expected to launch on Android soon, although a specific date has not yet been provided.
