Epic Game has been in the news a lot lately, and there are pretty good reasons for that. First of all, it stormed the internet by laying off its 16% of employees. This was the most unexpected thing that ever happened as its projects are working well and earning good revenue.
In spite of this, the company maintained its ongoing and proposed projects and kept its vision intact. Another part of its vision was to end the monopoly of the tech giants like Google and Apple.
And in this case, Epic Game won one ruling and showed that nothing is impossible if you are determined enough. Well, if you are curious to know about the entire case, then please give this article a read.
Epic Game Won Federal Court Ruling
Before discussing what case Epic Game won it is important to prepare some background so that you can grasp it easily. Well, you might not know this thing but currently, Apple and Google, both have monopolistic control over their app stores.
Whether it’s Google Play Store for Android or Apple App Store for iOS, they control apps and games on their platforms. They even charge a whooping amount 30% fee for all the in–app purchases made through their store.
Also, they charge game and app developers or developing companies the same fees. Epic Games feels this is unfair as both platforms are tech giants and thus impose their powers.
That is why, it started funding all the petitions against Google and Apple for their monopolistic control and plight of users. Recently it even filed a lawsuit in a Federal Court against the same.
As you may already the Federal States of America have strict laws against monopoly, due to their history. And now the federal jury has ruled in the antitrust case between Epic Game and Google, in favour of the former.
The jury found out and stated that Google is holding an illegal monopoly through the Google Play Store. Thus it unanimously voted in the favour of Epic Games. Now Epic Game won the case and is preparing to end Apple’s forced monopoly too.
The verdict came after following a four–week court trial between Google and Epic Game. The trials were to decide whether Google was using anti–competitive tactics with its online store or not. As through the platform millions of apps are sold daily, it is indeed important.
When Epic Game won the case, the Epic Game CEO shared this news through his X/Twitter account. He further informed that the Court’s work on remedies will start in January 2024.
