In a significant development for the telecommunications sector, it’s reported that India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is contemplating the delicensing of the lower band of the 6GHz spectrum to facilitate Wi-Fi connectivity. This strategic move will enable individuals to transition to Wi-Fi 7 routers, soon to be launched in India, and experience ultra-high-speed content delivery—5 times faster than the current Wi-Fi 6E-compatible routers.

Wi-Fi 7 Bringing High-Speed, Low-Latency Access to Your Doorstep: Says NETGEAR

One might wonder why there is a need for a new wireless standard, but in the dynamic world of technology, connectivity is the engine driving innovation, productivity, and seamless communication. As high-quality content and data-intensive cloud-based workloads continue to grow, the demand for quicker and more reliable wireless connectivity also escalates.

Wi-Fi 7 (also known as IEEE 802.11be), the latest iteration of wireless technology—operating over 2.5GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands—is set to transform the way we access the internet and interact with other devices on our networks. Its innovative features and capabilities offer numerous benefits tailored to meet the needs of an increasingly interconnected world.

The Future of Connectivity: Embracing Wi-Fi 7 Technology in India

Industry frontrunners like NETGEAR are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to introduce this revolutionary technology to the Indian market.

Marthesh Nagendra, Sales Director, India MEA South-East Asia Region, NETGEAR, shares his thoughts, “Wi-Fi 7 is a game-changing technology that outperforms its predecessors like Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6. It signifies a crucial advancement in wireless technology, catering to our hyper-connected world’s urgent needs. Exceptional speed, improved efficiency, reduced latency, and advanced security features redefine our connectivity experiences.”

He further adds, “NETGEAR, as a leading networking innovator, has been supporting businesses where Wi-Fi 7 is already the norm. Leveraging our extensive channel network and strong business presence in South Asia, NETGEAR is well-positioned to introduce this groundbreaking technology to the Indian market.”

Wi-Fi 7 brings a plethora of benefits for its users:

· With data transfer speeds of up to 46Gbps, Wi-Fi 7 delivers a performance five times faster than Wi-Fi 6E routers. This significant improvement is vital for bandwidth-demanding applications like virtual reality, augmented reality, and high-definition video streaming.

· Doubling the bandwidth channels to 320MHz ensures high speeds and accommodates more device connections. This spectral efficiency, combined with Wi-Fi 7’s advanced modulation techniques, results in better spectrum usage and reduced network congestion in crowded environments such as smart homes, offices, and public spaces.

· Wi-Fi 7 addresses latency, a crucial factor that impacts user experience. With minimized latency, applications like online gaming, video conferencing, and streaming can offer a more immersive and seamless user experience.

· The multi-link operation feature allows Wi-Fi 7 to use both 5GHz and 6GHz bands simultaneously for sending and receiving data, effectively increasing throughput and intelligently switching to a functioning band to maintain connectivity.

Prepare your home, office, and public spaces for the future with Wi-Fi 7 routers by NETGEAR. For instance, the Orbi 970 Series of Wi-Fi 7 family of mesh routers and the Nighthawk RS700S can deliver speeds of up to 10Gbps and 19Gbps, respectively, to devices connected to the network. Alongside the impressive speeds, users can connect to a more reliable and secure network for a buffer-free experience.
