Edinson Cavani is on his way out of Manchester United in the summer. The Uruguayan has been struggling to stay fit at Old Trafford, and with his contract expiring, he will be walking out of the club as a free agent.

Previously, the striker had been linked with a return to South America, with several clubs interested. But now, it seems like those options will not be pursued since Cavani wants to remain in Europe.

Despite previous reports, Cavani will not be joining River Plate in the summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, that deal is off the table. And instead, the veteran is holding out for a move to La Liga.

The plan to leave has not changed, and it will be confirmed soon as well. Manchester United is well aware of his plans to leave and is working to find a suitable replacement. Cavani has been unable to keep himself fit for the majority of this campaign, after proving to be an asset in his debut campaign.

According to Romano, Manchester United will 100% sign a new young striker in the summer. And with Edinson Cavani leaving the club, they will be competing for game time with Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not getting any younger himself.

A number of names have been doing the rounds in the transfer rumor mill, such as Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland, and Harry Kane. But, United is yet to start formally pursuing any one of these targets.
