EA Sports’ Ambitious Partnership Aims to Resolve Name and Likeness Dispute in ‘EA Sports College Football’
In May 2023, EA Sports announced a partnership with OneTeam Partners aimed at facilitating the inclusion of FBS players’ names and likenesses in the forthcoming “EA Sports College Football” video game. This agreement provided players with the choice to permit EA Sports to utilize their identities within the game, with the compensation offered for those who consented, as confirmed by an EA Sports spokesperson speaking to ESPN.
Despite this development, certain specifics remained unresolved, prompting the College Football Player Association to advocate for a boycott of the game. Their contention centered on concerns regarding the adequacy of compensation for players allowing the use of their name, image, and likeness. EA Sports responded by clarifying that players who opted out would be substituted with “a generic avatar” in their stead, pending further negotiations.
In February 2021, EA Sports made waves by announcing the much-anticipated return of the “NCAA Football” video game series, marking an eight-year hiatus since its last installment. However, the revival came with familiar hurdles reminiscent of those encountered when production ceased in 2013. Notably, it was confirmed that players’ names and likenesses would once again be omitted from the game, echoing the circumstances surrounding the series’ cessation.

In a recent tweet, the former two-division champion aired his grievances, asserting that he personally contacted an EA Sports employee regarding the alleged glitch concerning Kylian Mbappe, only to receive no assurance of a resolution.
