The Drifter brings a completely unique playstyle to Risk of Rain 2, swinging her oversized sack like a mallet and creating temporary items for teammates. Unlike the Operator who comes unlocked by default, Drifter requires you to complete a challenging multi-step journey through the new expansion’s toughest content.

Step-by-Step Unlock Process
1. Reach Conduit Canyon (Stage 3)
Start your run and progress to the third stage. Once you enter Conduit Canyon, defeat shield-bearing enemies to collect Sentry Keys. You’ll need at least six keys total to unlock the teleporter and progress forward.

2. Defeat the Alloy Hunter
After activating enough Sentry Terminals, fight the Alloy Hunter during the teleporter event—a dangerous boss with moves that can potentially one-shot you. Stay mobile and watch for its sweeping energy attacks.
3. Conquer Solus Wing
At Solutional Haunt, you must reach and beat Solus Wing, the final boss of the expansion. This is the expansion’s hardest fight, featuring wide AOE attacks and high burst damage. Don’t rush—take your time learning its patterns.
4. Collect Prison Matrices
After defeating Solus Wing, don’t enter the exit portal immediately. Use the zip lines to reach the top area where you’ll find remains of two Alloyed units called Solus Coffer on different platforms. Interact with each to obtain a Prison Matrix. Be ready—enemies spawn when you grab them.
5. Free the Drifter
Return to the arena’s bottom floor and look for Drifter’s prison. Use the Prison Matrices to remove the force fields and set Drifter free. This completes the “Lost in Transit” challenge and permanently unlocks her.

Drifter’s Unique Abilities
The Drifter specializes in utilizing Junk to deliver creative attacks that deal a ton of damage. Her kit includes Blunt Force (170% damage attacks), Junk Cube (400% damage slam), and the passive Trash to Treasure ability that provides stackable buffs.
Pro Tip: If continuing your run, interact with the MUL-T unit in Drifter’s prison to receive a shower of free items.
FAQs
Q: Can I unlock Drifter if I join a friend’s game who owns the DLC?
No, you must own the Alloyed Collective expansion yourself to unlock and play Drifter. Simply joining a friend’s session won’t grant you access to the character.
Q: What’s the easiest difficulty to unlock Drifter?
Start on Drizzle difficulty for your first attempt. The Solus Wing boss fight is extremely challenging, and there’s no penalty for unlocking her on easier settings. You can also use the Command Artifact to optimize your build.
