Dries Mertens has been offered a €4 million per season contract by Turkish side Galatasaray. The Belgian forward left Napoli at the end of his contract in June, and was quite emotional as he said goodbye to the club after nine years with them.
Galatasaray are waiting for a final answer from the player, and they are willing to include an automatic renewal in his contract if the team secures Champions League football in the coming season.
Dries Mertens weighing up Galatasaray move
Napoli have lost vital players like Lorenzo Insigne, Mertens and Kalidou Koulibaly this summer. The two forwards left the club upon the end of their contracts, which signals a new era for the side.
The 35-year-old has been contacted by Juventus, Lazio and Newcastle United as well. But right now, it seems that Galatasaray are leading the race for the player.
While Dries Mertens decides on his future, the club are working to sign Lucas Torreira from Arsenal. The midfielder spent the last season on loan at Fiorentina, and had quite an impressive spell with them. But due to negotiations falling through between the two clubs, a permanent transfer has been ruled out.
Mikel Arteta has ruled out a place in the squad for the Uruguayan, which means a transfer away is the most likely option for him.
