The story follows 15-year-old Sophie Birenbaum, who learns her mother’s cancer, once thought to be in remission, has returned as terminal. While navigating that devastating news, Sophie is also cast to lead her school musical and watches her closest friends step into dating for the first time — forcing her to figure out how to keep living fully even as she braces for loss.
The screenplay comes from Laura Hankin alongside Hart and Jordan Horowitz, Hart’s husband and longtime creative partner. The pair have previously worked together on “Stargirl,” “Hollywood Stargirl,” and “I’m Your Woman.”
Sunny Sandler leads a stacked ensemble that includes Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, Jack Champion, Stephanie Beatriz, Bebe Neuwirth, Steve Buscemi, and Jon Lovitz. Filming took place across Jersey City and other New Jersey locations from July to September 2025.
